Portal to tomorrow
about.
Portal to Tomorrow is a future-facing landmark designed to serve as the epicenter of science and technology in Bangalore - India’s Silicon Valley. The building embodies ambition and innovation, aiming to inspire the next generation of thinkers and makers. It stands as a bold statement of India’s growing influence in global innovation and technological advancement.
challenge.
Bangalore, despite being India’s tech capital, lacks a dedicated space that translates its scientific prowess into public inspiration. The challenge lies in creating a science and technology center that addresses the city's limited STEM engagement, low science tourism, and fragmented innovation culture. Portal to Tomorrow responds to this need, a building designed to unify, inspire, and propel India’s scientific future through space, experience, and visibility. The image below is the site location and its built context
concept.
Concept note: Conceiving the edifice as a living text, a love letter to the knowledge and innovation it houses within its walls.
The sketches below served as the foundation upon which the design is built. They depict an architectural language characterized by sinuous lines and a sense of fluid movement. The goal was to create a form that reflects the science center’s content and inspires intrigue in the viewer, while conveying innovation and forward-thinking through an elegant and sophisticated design. The form itself is the building’s centerpiece.
program.
The building’s program was crafted to offer a holistic and immersive scientific experience. It brings together a Science and Technology Museum, Planetarium, Simulator Gallery, Convention Center, and Observation Tower, supported by administrative, service, and exterior functions. Each space is designed to engage visitors across disciplines and scales, celebrating the breadth of scientific exploration and innovation.
structure.
The exterior shell was conceived as a testament to contemporary technological capabilities. A lightweight yet sturdy exoskeleton of steel rods forms the primary framework. Over this, a prefabricated polymer based surface generated through Grasshopper was applied. Composed of interlocking triangular panels, the shell showcases innovation in parametric design and advanced fabrication, reinforcing the building’s futuristic identity
